David Gurney

David Gurney is a well-known EP, creator, writer and director of animated television series and interactive media. He created, wrote, directed and produced Australia's first CGI animated television series, Blue Rocket’s Hoota & Snoz. Three seasons were produced and sold worldwide into more than 120 countries. David is a co-founder and co-owner Blue Rocket Productions, a multi award winning animation studio based in Hobart, Tasmania.

David has executive produced and directed 19 television series, a feature length telemovie, and numerous short films for Blue Rocket. His latest two television series, Dumbotz and Fanshaw & Crudnut are featured regularly on Nine Network’s NineGO channel. He has also created and developed a number of television series for other production companies including three seasons of Erky Perky for CCI and Ambience Entertainment. David has worked as Creative Director of numerous award-winning interactive productions for Blue Rocket, Matchbox Pictures, ABC Australia and other production companies, and was Creative Director of Blue Rocket’s mobile entertainment which has sold content worldwide into 45 countries.

David has conducted seminars and consulted to numerous organisations including ABC Australia, AFTRS, UTAS, QUT, numerous Australian Federal and State Government screen agencies, Screen Producers Australia, and many other organisations and companies. He is Deputy Chair of Wide Angle Tasmania and was a board member of The Australian Script Centre for six years, and a board member of Events Tasmania.

Prior to working in film and television, David worked extensively in professional theatre, corporate and special events, and corporate film and interactive media production. He has produced thousands of events, media, and theatre productions throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

David holds a Masters in Screen Arts and Business from The Australian Film Television and Radio School.
